Have a vx3i CDS on two rifles that have had a lot of use from 10 metres out to 400. From first light to last light and all places in between. They have served us well and there has been no issues. You can spend more money on a higher spec model and it will do the job you require but you have to weigh up will it do it significantly better than the other model. It’s all fine having a great scope that can shoot a deer at 400 metres at last light, it’s another story trying to find it in the dark. Good luck with your choice.

It sounds like spec wise the VX5 is the way, but price and weight makes me lean more towards the VX3. I think the VX3 definitely meets my needs, in respect of glass quality I've been using an old Bushnell Dusk to Dawn so I think the VX3 is going to be big step up from that. Will post up what I choose.

A vx3i will feel like night vision after using a POS like that bushnell haha

I know there's a few threads about adjustable parallax and fixed parallax scopes on the forum, but they manly talk in regards to only long range shooting. In my situation having a bush rifle with occasional shots out to 400m do you think it really matters if I have the parallax adjustment or not?

Its just one more thing to worry about and like you say you are shooting under 500m

Yes.
On a bush rifle it will be a pain in the arse and always set wrong when you need a quick shot.

VX3i is what you want on a lightweight rifle.
The clicks are a bit soft and dials can change while carrying. A coverd cap option can be good.
Optik is good.
Eyebox can be addressed by adding a cheekpiece sized for your own face.
Parallax is not needed under 300m but makes the view sharper and both crosshair and target can be focused at once. As said it can easily be set wrong when you step off the open country and into the bush. Adjusting the power down to 4x is a good fix for that then leave parralax at 100 or 200m.
