Many years ago (25 yrs ago) I went down this same path buying a Remington Sendero in .300 WM for F class shoots and hunting.
I managed to achieve my longest kill on a goat (1250 mtrs) but there were a few things I learnt along the way.
On the range I was running a magnum round burning off 80+ grains of powder, heavy recoil while others were shooting .308’s or even 6.5x55 with less cost, less recoil.
After a 10 shot string my barrel was pretty hot and my shoulder was pretty sore!
For hunting the rifle setup was too heavy so carting it around all day was far from enjoyable.
I’ve often thought about getting back into F Class or PRS as it’s called but if I did it again I’d go for a medium cartridge like 6.5 CR, .243, 6mm Dasher
I also have my .284 Win which is a light weight hunting rifle setup for open tops, great to carry where a mate shot a bull Tahr at 520 mtrs with it back in May.
Earlier this year a mate bought a Ruger in 300 PRC with grand plans of shooting things out to 1800 mtrs but after a couple of trips carting that thing up and down some Otago hills the rifle has since been sold… wonder why 😉
Your gonna find it hard to do both hunting and target shooting with just one rifle as compromises will need to be made.
