making the change from 223 to 6.5grendel (maybe even 6mm arc?)

i kinda want to move on my howa 223 short action soon, theres nothing wrong with it just want to try something else maybe a mini or a ruger. i was kinda thinking about switching to the grendel or arc if thats arrived by the time i sell. mainly as kind of a night gun/ goat wallabie etc medium range target gun. is it worth making the change from 223 if ammo cost is kinda irrelevant for me. are people with grendels still only neck shooting deer? my thought process would then be just stick with 223 if you have to put the bullet in the same place. even if i buy a grendel ill end up with a 223 again further down the track as a kind of cheap trainer/ rabbits goat etc. just after any opinions of people whove thought or made the switch. or thise with a bit of experience running a grendel on deer

My last post on a 85 gr hammer in the Grendell is worth pursuing if you're going to reload. At say 3100 fps it's ahead of a 223.

Greg at Custom Guns just built a shit hot 6mm ARC on a Ruger American. For deer both the Grendel and ARC are streets ahead of a 223.

I am using a Grendel with the standard 123gr ELD-M Hornady Black ammunition. Out of a 20in Standard Barrel I am only getting 2470fps.

I have shot around 20+ Red/Fallow Deer with that Rifle and never had one walk away.
I do prefer Head/Neck Shots, but that's to do with preserving Meat. Shoulder shots still work a treat.

6mm ARC really looks great. Can't imagine it not working well.

I have Howas In both 223 and Grendal. I use and like both alot. if I were to sell one, it would be to buy an ARC. I think there is alot of promise in that cartridge.

Have a howa mini in 6.5 Grendel
I love the round really really useful wee thing
The arc looks even better though might have to try one when the howa’s come in

I don’t like the ruger American they sure do shoot very well indeed but I just can’t get over how absolutely shocking the finish quality is
Howa is 30x better on that front
    And they shoot straight aswell

    Keep the 223

Buy whatever else to have a play

When you’re sick of that move it on

Then dust off the 223 and keep going

This or if you are a re-loader buy / build a 6x45 or 6x45Improved and take advantage of cheap 223 brass.
my 6.5TCU is the last gun I would sell (Although I nearly did during a fit of stupidity)

OK so Im going to ask...what is the advantage of the other cartidges over a fast twist .223????

if guys are pushing the 70-80grn projectiles out of .223 case at anything like the speeds they are saying they are...its almost a .308-7mm08 using 150grn pill type thing is it not???

Out of a grendel I can get 3000 fps with a 100gn bullet
    20in barrel
So it’s like shooting a 243 in a smaller shorter rifle package
Which is the only thing that’s good about modern caliber’s over the classics
They do exactly the same job just the modern ones do it with less powder in a smaller package….

A 120gn at 2500 is also very handy

Alot more versatile than a standard 223 even shooting heavy for caliber bullets @Micky Duck
