Cheers guys only reason I was thinking of staying away from the magnums was in light rig that I'm going to do they become a lot harder to shoot consistently accurate bit of food for thought anyway

Well in that case .260 or .260AI, or a Jaffa special.
I have a .260 on a custom Kimber, 5 lbs all up, with four down, it's lively to shoot, infact I would rather do 20 shots with the 9.3, or .375, but light was what I got.
I look and see if Lapua has brass, or brass I can resize, if not, move i on to something esle.
I had a play with all the short fat magnums, don't care for any of them really, only short cartage I like is .221 fireball,
How light you trying to get ?

Is your kimber suppressed? I'm going to suppress this rifle
It will have a number 2 tube and McMillan carbon stock so pretty light

I'd go creed as well, purely because of you
I've had a few odd balls and I liked them all. But after all that these small, light, short action 260's are just great. Rem or Ai. I wouldn't Ai any rifle again, not worth the hassle.
... maybe the only alteration I may do to this Finnlight is carbon the stock. Not so much for weigh (I actually think they're as light as), but just cause.
Mines Unsuppressed and I like it like that too.

You had a .284 as well? How did you find it?

I thought it was good. Very good in fact.
Weatherby ultra light for a start and 20" in 284 it was nice. The 140's could move.
My main motivation has always been the Sako. As a hunting rifle I have never used anything else yet to compare. I've obviously never done the custom job stuff although I've been very interested in a couple of KG and that last one of yours.
As a 284 the action needs consideration shorter for hunting/longer for seating and remember most Forums talk of 26"+ barrels and that sucks if you're like me.

I've got a Tikka in .260, it has a reasonable kick to it, but it's not unpleasant to shoot.
If recoil in a light rifle is a concern I'd be going for .260, 6.5x55 or 6.5 Creedmoor.

6.5x55 has the best factory ammo choices, but all 3 have similar availability of good brass.
6.5x55 and .260 both have Lapua brass and are easy to buy dies for, 6.5x55 might be a tad cheaper in both department.
Although 6.5x55 wont fit in a short action, whereas .260 and the Creedmoor will.

No, was thinking about it, but have more than one center fire, and just had the 7x57 and .264 win threaded, for suppressor, don't really see the point, in adding more weight to an ultralight rifle, might as well take one of the others, allthough it might be less lively to sight in, I know it shoots very well, but like most very light weight rifles, its difficult to consistently shoot well.

My recent build 6.5x.284 reaches out to 500m very nicely, accurate, little recoil and an absolute pleasure to shoot...

I've had a few different ones over the years 25-08Ai 7-08Ai plus a lot of standard chambers now have 2 x .260AI and a standard. 260 all are good and no drama forming cases a max standard load to form them and it's still useable as a hunting load.
Had a 6.5 x 284 20" and no advantage having this over a .260AI 10 grains less powder for same speed with 130grns.
The 7 08 AI is a good round search Kenny Garrett rifles interesting read about them.
If you want a smaller round on med action the 25-08 is awesome.

Now if you leaned that over about 30 degrees, then it would look like the mortar round that it really is
