How is the scope to look through?

You can see it against a clear background like the Sky. I just had Stug over today and showed him the 260AI it is on and didn't notice until putting the gun back in the safe now. Fark!
Send the picture to the NZ agent, and see how good they are...
If they are a shit agent, then send a pic back to Nightforce USA...
Hope one of them has good service, be it you bought it new or second hand.
Bought new from Queensland gun exchange and emailed them the pic.
You see lots of weird shit looking down scopes on weird angles.
The Swarovski X5 looks like a bolt rubbish dump, a premier that works fine as has small bit of rubbish that appears on the lens now and then.
If it doesn't affect function or clarity go hunting.

No its not right - this is looking straight down it... yes worse off center but looks like I've walked into a spider's web. Can see it against backgrounds too.
Too soon pal.
Wow that looks really screwy. Certainly looked fine earlier. Is it something inside the lens or a growth on it?
Sorry to say but it looks like lens fungus
Looks like polishing scratches as quite spiralled... gun room is bone dry doubt a growth.
That's bloody strange mate as she was new in the box with mine and matts one how many times had you looked through it before noticing it?
Just today...found receipt you email through. Bloody odd. Just took next door to father in law who wears glasses and even he could see the marks.
Yeah mate bloody strange can you feel it at all? Like a scratch?
No it is internal - outside as new of course...cos basically is. Perhaps just caught right light. 99% sure not fungal.
I'm picking it will have to go back to nightforce mate I have never seem anything like it, deadeye dicks might help by sending it direct to wherever they get repairs done?
From experience you will fine dead eye less than helpful unless you purchased the scope through them.Just go direct with where you purchased it from or deal with nightforce direct.
looks like fungus, a problem with non sealed camera lenses...
Oh well, You get the odd lemon with the entry level stuff.
Just because your gun room is bone dry doesn't mean the inside of the scope is.
True...hasn't been wet though, but of course may not have come to me dry.
You had better swap over to that big Zeiss and get cracking on the ELD-X load development. I need some free load data for the 260AI
Kahles or vx-6 now... :(
Sometimes when a lens (if multilayer) for the likes of sunglasses comes apart the first sign you get of delamination in either a tide line if its from one edge or these crackly lines as the adhesive is coming away from the two layers equally. Its much more usual to come away from one side than all sides at once unless the internal ring has let go. So no sounds or rattles when shaken?
Yes looks more like that than fungus to me...not having seen fungus before (on a scope lens).... but no rattles.
All it needs to do is compress the buffer its against to give it play to reverberate against so it's ok on one side and adherred on the other. Tell tale is it doesn't change in the safe but becomes more pronounced (compare photos) after firing a number of shots. what cal is it on currently?
260AI, round count just under 20. I read there have been issues with the new F1, will have a google.
OK good info with that round count I'd say given they are gas sealed with metal rings plus o rings etc what you may have is a partial lens failure due to a vacuum or similar force trying to suck the inner side of the lens off and this wouldn't have been viewable until after firing, so would have passed inspections at factory - and any other parts not cinched up against the lens had moved to their final resting place. As you say if its a machine issue at point of manufacture there'll be a few of these whilst the machine was out of tolerance. google and other forums will be your friend with this I'm sure...
The Nightforce warranty is very good in my experience. Have had similar growth in a camera lens before, agree with you they also look like swirl marks.
The guys in Oz are chasing up and looks like it is heading back there...what would be the best method to send it over? I was just going to pack it up and take into NZPost.
The EMS tracked mail service to and from Oz works really well. You also have the option of increased insurance cover if it's over their own cover value. Tracking service is great as you can confirm delivery. 3-5 days at most.
Thank you!
Sent my nightforce to the states through the post shop, was expensive but surprisingly quick
I've contacted NF too, as have the store,...if I send to them and they send on fine and I expect a replacement without having to wait for NF to determine the problem - just know there is one and sort it out ASAP. I heard NF are actually an Australian company....is that true?
Got my one through euro optics and after s while a piece of debri appeared inside, sticking to the lenses every now and then. They sent me a knew one which was better than waiting for nightforce to repair it
I hope I get that kind of service.
