I’ve got to respond to this as I totally disagree. As a hunting rig the reticle is fantastic. I’ve taking goats at 1015yds and I’ve shot a12in gong at 1050yds 5/6 shots so as a target option it’s still not bad.
Everyone likes there own and I love the V4. If I could afford a V6 I’d go there as well.
I run a NF NXS on my range rig and it’s awesome but the reticle is so fine it literally disappears at dusk.

Yea mate. Similar to what I had read and a great side by side comparison of all 3. Cheers. Leupold seem the perfect middle option but are so over priced in nz.

    They sure are now!
I can remember the first VX6 I brought was $1400 not much has changed but the price sure has.

I’ve had my hands on all off these, used leupold and swaro. I am in the same position currently planning scopes for hunting rifle of similar nature. If weight was my No1 factor or be in a swaro. The z5 isn’t really a fair comparison. The z6 is what I’ll be going for. 30mm, Good turret, light and clear optic.

That said… more recently I have been finding my self more and more concerned with durability of the swaro/don’t feel as comfortable giving it a hard time as some hunts end up. The Z6 is now on my 223 for farm hunts.. and I’ll be lining up either a NXS 2.5-10x40 or the Nx8. Hands down these are made for a bad days where the environment just gets the better of us. If your cashed up to buy atm. I’d snap up the deal on the adjacent thread for the NX8 priced extremely well and around what you’ll pay nearly for a vx6 or Z6.

All the best with your build mate. I’d love to here more about it when complete as have mine in the pipeline..

Yea man will do. Had any experience with the March scopes? Been recommended and looking at the 2.5-25x42. Wicked mag range, good weight, seem awesome just some real decent reviews on them.

    Swaro Z6 2,5-15x44

Fantastic scope on my Saum. I've owned the VX6 and Z5. Both great scopes, pro's and con's for each, since sold both. Now run the Z6. Would consider the V6 Zeiss too.

Sacked a monster fallow buck bang on 400m at this moment

I don't want to be confusing and adding another option to the mix but i will anyway...

If you're willing to spend NX8 money it would surely be worth looking into a Leupold mk5 3.6-18. a sweet all round hunting scope i reckon.

they're rugged, repeatable and weigh 700 grms

I run the 5-25 version on a long range rig and absolutely love it. wicked glass, it tracks bloody well and some good reticles are available

Recently seriously considered the NX8 when looking for a scope to put on my "do it all" rifle but there were a few things that stood out to me that I didn't like about it as a dedicated hunting rifle optic. The first thing was its size and weight, when you see it in photos etc compared to other scopes in its class it doesn't actually seem all that big or out of place but in person it's just a brute of a thing. I didn't like the strange tube setup with bugger all tube in front of the turrets which means you would be restricted to mounting it on a rail (ie: no talleys etc)
The glass was good, but not amazing. And the final thing I didn't like about it was its sharp angles ie the turrets on it, it just screamed "I'm going to get all caught up in your pack straps when you're trying to pull your rifle out in a hurry" to me. Mag range is excellent but I don't think you need 20x on a real world hunting rifle (or 50mm obj for that matter) and the build quality and robustness will be typical nightforce but with that comes the 800+ gram weight penalty it incurs. I ended up going swaro

You won't bend a nightforce like swaro can!

That's interesting because literally the only scope I have seen bend was a Nightforce lol also seen one with crushed tube from rings that weren't even torqued to spec when it happened, it didn't just put a wee mark in it either it proper collapsed

Myself and @WildBrad have ordered SFP NX8 4-32s. Tossed up over the 2.5-20 but they are just a bit ugly lol and wasn’t too keen on needing to use a rail to mount them.

Running one on my 300nm, havnt taken it out hunting yet but so far seems good, Doesn't balance quite as well as the vx5 but the performance will make up for it.
