I think it would have been done after my friend had died and his firearms were in the care of one of his friends, he would have decocked the bolt when storing so not to loose spring tension and the friend would have helpfully recocked it so that the bolt could be used in the rifle - with vicegrips.
Its no biggie, it just looks like shit.
Im leaning towards dolling it up as best as possible without removing the blueing with the hammer then reblueing it on the parts that shine.
my last cold blueing job looked great but rusted like a demon so loosing the factory blue I think would be a mistake
