    great thread - really keen to practice a lot more 22lr shooting - will be setting up a bit more of a formal private range at home in the near future. Currently shooting a pretty basic 10/22 sporter delux model, only upgrades are a BX trigger, DPT suppressor and a pretty basic Bushnell 1.5-4.5 scope which i'll look to replace.
    Have been keen on an RPR as I have it's big brother tucked in my safe...

    I don't think there is any doubt that a "target rifle" of just about any era will shoot at least as well if not better than 99% of sporters, for a start a heavy barrel is a heck of an advantage in shooting a 22 well and consistently. I've had a modified Vickers Martini 22 target rifle (with a modern thumbhole stock and scope) for over 30 years that is consistently the most accurate 22 I've ever come across. I haul it out occasionally when I want to test a batch of ammo, or just reassure myself I can still shoot. I won't shoot in in any sort of "competition" like this for two reasons, - I prefer the challenge to shoot genuine sporting rifles, and I might be horribly disappointed if I got beat with it!!

    I really am looking forward to shooting the 541T. In 1980 on Friday "late night shopping" I used to go up to Din Collings shop in Karori and hang out with him and his lovely wife Viv. Din was very free with his time and it was possible to learn a hell of a lot talking with him. He had a Remington 541S on the rack that I wanted badly, but he talked me out of it, explaining that it was cheap roll engraving and that there was a superior model - the 541T. He convinced me to wait till one turned up - well Din is long passed and during the ensuing 40 years I've only had one or two opportunities at a 541T ,and until @Tedz50 was kind enough to offer me his, I have't had one. Proves all good things come to those who wait!

    the 541t is a pretty heavy barrel
    my mate part swaped his for an annie 1712 so he doesn't have it any more but i can tell you it was extremely accurate 0.2 and 0.3 at 50 the norm with the right ammo

    I think they are selling both empty primed cases + projectiles.

    No wonder I couldn't recognize that stock configuration - I have never seen one of those! No doubt about it, the Europeans had the game sewn up in the 60-80's era when it came to building quality 22 competition rifles.

    @HJA8
    ive never seen another one ether
    i think they must be pretty rare poped up on trademe one day and my mate who is absolutely as an acute addiction to 22's brought it
    its got the best trigger ive shot its not the lightest trigger ive shot (around 1lb)but its got absolutely no creep or over travel and just breaks like absolute glass its honestly the trigger everyone dreams of for a target rifle

    one very interesting thing is the bolt has a click adjustable knob on the back that adjusts head space so if you are running super consistent ammo you can run a slightly tighter head space to suit or looser for cheap practice ammo also has 2 bolts you you can set up for 2 ammo's
    not sure if it come with 2 from the factory or if the previous owner was lucky enough to get another but its a nice touch

    when my mate got it it was covered in stickers that you get when you win or shoot prefect 5 from 5's in silhouette comps for some reason he took them off i would have left them on as its the rifles life story as such

    im only the temporary custodian of this rifle still belongs to my mate however he has been talking if selling so i might make that permanent i think

    This is why I like to lot test ammo. When I find something half decent, it will usually shoot well in most of my rifles.
    150 shots of SK Rifle Match - 5 different 22's - 50 metres outdoors. And yes, the Lithgow is still the most accurate general purpose 22 I've owned to date!

    The Anschutz 1710 DHB Classic is perhaps my favourite rimfire - Look good in a traditional way, nice action, function well and accurate! I've owned a number of these but the two pictured here are my "keepers".

    The bolts on the Anschutz are remarkable.
