    Ruger M77 Bolt extractor band.

    Hello folks,

I've got a Ruger M77 with a busted Bolt extractor retaining band.
Agent can't help me and I can't get a new one out of the USA.

Does anyone have an unloved band laying around ?

Apparently all the Ruger 77 Mauser actions use the same band.

How come a 30 year old piece of bent spring steel gets buggered when the same think on my century old P14 is still okay ?

    Make one

Or get one of the gunsmiths on this forum to form one up for you

    Good idea.
I assumed they would be formed from soft material and then heat treated, all sounds a bit tricky.
    Will investigate.

I needed one for a Minchester M70 bolt. Asked a local gunsmith and he made one for me and he doesn't use the latest or most complex tools.
Should be a smith in your neck of the woods who could manufacture one.

Thank you 7mmsaum, you were right on the money.
I had a think about it and have just finished making one myself.
Started off seeing if a feeler gauge could handle a sharp bend, which it did not like.
So stole a rubbish cheap 12" rule from the Wifes sewing room and cut it up.
As usual the rule was magnetic so a bit better than plain old commercial grade stainless.
It has worked out brilliantly, so problem has gone away.
7mmsaum and Waldo Peens like this.
