All you need to do is walk into a gun store (at least in Auckland) and this is very evident. Everything is "plastic fantastic" shit, which over here costs more than a damn nice rifle in the US.
I recently wanted a bolt action 22, so I walked straight past the brazilian made mossbergs, straight past the crappy starlings and marlins, straight past the savage plastic basic models and just said "I want a blue'd, wooden Savage Mk2 G. Can you get me one.". The answer I got: "No one has any at the moment. You'll have to wait for 3 months~". So I walked out with a CZ452.
At $500 the Savage Mk2 is cheap enough to just go and grab one. But in the states they're $240US D: I'd have a few for that.
It's the same deal with all the centerfire stuff. A decent gun like a Model 700 or Tikka over here is $1,200... in the states it's a fraction of that.
Do any of you guys import your own guns? Surely it's gotta save some serious dough doing that?
