If you liked your Diamond back then, a Viper PST 6-24 would be a good option, they do tend to come up on Trademe semi frequently.
There are a lot of good scopes that 2nd hand are under $1000, but most folk tend to go for something in the 4-16 range, rather than the 6-24 range, so there are less for sale.

If your lucky, may be able to get a Vortex HST 6-24, Leupold VX3 6.5-20 or Nikon Monarch out of the USA for around $1K.
