    Scope recommendations

I'm going to be in the market for another scope soon, one around the $1500 mark when buying second hand, and I want to see what is out there that I may not have considered.

It would have to be a scope using MRAD's, and have a magnification range somewhere around 4-24.
Focal plane isn't a deal breaker.
Cluttered reticles are a no go (no Christmas trees), and I prefer to have illumination focused on a small point as opposed to the whole reticle.

I currently have a Delta Titanium HD 4-24x50 with the 4A SB reticle, which I quite like, but I want to see other scopes around that price that may be better.
I like the look of the Delta Stryker 3.5-21x44, but I'm not sure how much one would cost second hand.

If youre looking at the Stryker then id also look for a Bushnell LRHS/TS 3.5-21x50 on the second hand market. Usually $1000-1500 when they pop up on the second hand market. Same design (50mm vs 44m) and OEM (LOW Japan) as the stryker

Have seen Delta Strykers go for between 1500-2200.
A very good option if you can find one under $2000.

The Delta Stryker is a better scope in every way than the SHV, and unless I'm mistaken the 5-20x56 SHV doesn't come in MRAD so doesn't even meet the OPs basic requirements.

What quals have you got to make that sort of comment?
It is in the right price range, no mils fair enough call.
The shv 5x20 iz a bloody good performing scope as have had a heap to do with them.
Just wish they had a smaller objective with mils.
    Lots of bang for buck.
I do rate the f1 4x14 as got one in mils my self.

Not having a horse in the race probably qualifys him
Tahr, matto1234, woods223 and 1 others like this.
The range of what we think and do is limited by what we fail to notice. And because we fail to notice that we fail to notice, there is little we can do to change; until we notice how failing to notice shapes our thoughts and deeds

I might have a horse in the race but at least I consider myself qualified to comment.
    Fencing chainsaws and optics.
In any of those conversations I will hold my own.

Is there a Mil/MRAD version of the SHV 5-20?

No but wish they did and with a 50mm objective!
I my self really rate the the 2.5x20 as the do anything nz hunting optic that is not a ballerina optic but a no nonsense tough do most things optic.
It is now coming in at a price very competively with the other optics in that mag range.
Nf are leaders and not followers and will not put out optics that are nearly good enough.
    My 2cents.

That Bushnell reticle is a touch busy for my liking.
I don't mind having markings along the x and y axis, but once they start to extend out from there, I find them a bit annoying, especially since I dial for elevation instead of holding for it.

I have had a look at the Nightforce SHV line, but I really would like to get a scope in Mils if possible.
Also, what was this about a 10% Sika show discount?
I unfortunately can't make it there, so I wouldn't be able to get it anyway.

Is the Stryker that much different in terms of glass quality and light transmission than the Delta Titanium?

I've also thought about saving more and getting the Nightforce NX8 2.5-20x50 Mil-CF2 second hand, but that'll need some more time to think on whether I want to commit that much to a scope or not.

Have you spent much time with tree style reticles?
You do get used to them with a bit of use, some are much better than others. The Delta LRD-1T isn't too bad as the dots are relatively small.

I only say this as most of the Mil/Mrad scopes in higher magnification ranges come with tree reticles, so by excluding these you don't have that many options.

I'd put up a WTB post in the buy sell section for a Mil scope around $1500-$2000 and see what you get offered.
