    the wood is normally a tree named "Chu", its a damn soft wood and absorbs oil like crazy.

    Got advice from a man in the know and he said danish oil was the go so got a tin from Bunnings and have done a couple of coats it looks good to me,have some birch wood Casey stock wax here that I will do a final coat with in a few days.thanks for all the tips.

    Give the stock at least 12 coats mate. Like someone said the stocks are not all that flash as colour goes and they take a wee bit of oil to come right

    Tung oil if you can find the real stuff. Either that or BLO

    I tossed a can of Tung oil a while back as it caused a reaction to my skin and apparently it is well known for that. Now with BLO there are 2 types, the one that you can get from Bunnings, Mitre ten etc and then there is the oil you can buy from art supplies, thats the real stuff and it gives a great finish but takes a lot longer to do so
