Both loaded under 240 grain flat point lead projectile, rather than wasting an expensive XTP (I cast my own as have access to free lead, but there is a guy on TradeMe who has a steller reputation!). I have found the flat point dropped game better than a round nose.
Rob Walker at Tokoroa will be the TM guy I think you are referring to. On this forum as @shooternz. Excellent hollowpoints in various calibres for hunting and RN for e.g. 303B target shooting.

I shoot a fair bit of cast from levers and bolts at game. I favour a truncated cone for accuracy out to 120m in my Rossi Pumas. They feed well and the flat nose gives a sharp edge at the beginning of the ogive which cuts a clean wound channel and therefore better bleeding. I have also used 158gn RN out of a 357mag until I ran out of them These are deadly on goats as a shoulder, head or neck shot. They kill but not as clean if they don't hit bone.

I also buy HawkRiver Target projectiles from Delta Mike. These are the cheapest vol projectiles I can find in 44, 45 and 357 and fine for goats and bailed pigs etc as well as target or plinking. They are coated, uniform and accurate. They are also available in truncated cone flat points. I am experimenting with drilling a HP in the nose of some. Have not tested them yet. Buy in lots of 400 for 44 and 45, 500 for 357. Made in Oz

For deer I would stick to Walker's gas checked hollowpoints.

I used to use cast bullets but found the xtp more accurate and for the amount of shooting I do (not much)can’t justify buying 2 different kinds, roberts cast are well made though and he is a wealth of knowledge to boot.

Yeah, unfortunately/fortunately I'm the kind of guy who sees something different, has to try it. Why I have pockets full of notebooks to remind me what I last did with what lol I have a lot of fun out of it tho...
