Maybe true @Gibo but my rifle is a 270 and for the record the only rifle the shop had in stock that was in 7mm08 which is actually what I wanted and it was a tikka package that was out of my set budget and the 270 was only second choice but in remington and was in my budget including the purchase of the scope. So yes I almost became a tikka owner even though I voted for tikka on this poll of toby's so yes I do have a tiny soft spot for them as I was not going to vote for the caliber

    Feel the Tikka love lol

Found this thread as I am mulling over the idea of getting one as I want a modern rifle I could possibly use for some 'longer' range shooting.

I would certainly look at a Tikka, they are hardly any more than a new Remington 700, yet have a nicer fit an finish, better trigger and are lighter. The factory synthetic Tikka stocks are better than most on cheap rifles.

I would probably buy a 2nd hand one over a new one, there are loads of them on Trademe and you can pick up barely used ones for heaps cheaper.
Unless you want an obscure calibre, theres bound to be a near new one on Trademe.
I'm waiting for a 2nd hand .260 to come on, there has been a couple come up but they disappear quickly and I don't have the funds just yet.

So the answer is yes, ... if you replace most of it.

    Me? Lippy?

I'd be happy to buy a near new one, if the price is right etc.

As for round, not too sure, thinking 6.5x55, no idea why though. In terms of brands, Remington, Tikka & Howa are the 3 that jump out the most at this stage (Though I read Remingtons can be real hit and miss in terms of getting a good one or not).
