    A beauty sika stag

Last weekend was one to remember! It all started with an awesome afternoon hunt on the Saturday where we saw plenty of animals including a nice 8 point stag who got the jump on us so we knocked over two hinds for the family freezers and do our bit for management instead. One of them was taken by myself at a simple 100 yards and another by Bradley right on last light at 380 yards. She was a solid mission carrying those two buggers out in the dark! What really topped it off was an outstanding hunt the next morning.

Dragging ourselves out of bed and putting our muddy blood covered clothes and gear back on, we headed out up the hill. After an hour or so of glassing we had laid eyes on two young spikers when Bradley laid eyes on some beautiful white tops amongst the scrub. As soon as they were seen they were lost again amongst the scrub but not long after I managed to get eyes on and lock down his position. At 660 yards with no way to close the gap this is what the 7mm rem mag is dialled in and prepared for.

Bradley got setup and good to go just as the stag fed out into the open presenting a nice broadside shot. Dialled in 12.5MOA and holding 5MOA for wind he let rip but the shot sailed well forward. There was a good wind blowing up the valley but the projectile hadn’t drifted at all!? Luckily I spotted the miss and Bradley chambered a second round whilst I told him he needed to aim bang on. Letting rip again the 162 ELD-X sailed true to its target and smoked the stag right in the boiler room. To say we were excited and giving handshakes all round would be an understatement! A huge amount of relief after some serious stag fever! A beauty stag and an awesome hunt with a good mate. This is what I live for 👌

We did a rough measure up and score ourselves. We got it as mid 160s with the stumpy trey tines being the biggest hindrance.

Fantastic stag. Just goes to show how difficult it is to judge the wind in the hills when shooting at distance. Well done on getting him.

The stag looks very similar in shape and and size as my best sika which scores 191 DS the trey tines on mine may be a bit bigger but not a lot. How long is he mine is just over 29 inches long ? Tried to upload a picture of mine for comparison but did work.
