there were a lot of moas around . At one stage there huge buried bone piles were mined for fertilizer .

I see they are cloning cats and dogs now in america for around 40k for a cat and 80k for a dog

I had the honour of flying a Russian Steppe eagle one time. It was something I wont forget in a hurry.

The owner/trainer told me after the event, that I was the only person to ever handle her (Gypsy), other than himself, and he was impressed with how she behaved.....

"Climate change" started in the 1970's under another name, if you look back at the original claims we would be under water by 2000 plus run out of crude oil. They change the name when it suits, but their "agenda" follows the same pattern.

Im under the assumption that doc would never allow us to hunt something thats endemic and at risk of going back extinct. In my mind they would never be able to be hunted, ever

having them in the bush and not being able to hunt them would make them a liability if you have been face to face with a hormonal ostrich male Im sure it would be similar but without the fence to protect you, I was told by a farmer once one tried kick him and snapped a post off at the ground, another farmer he knew had his guts scragged and his guts fell out

Iv seen an emu south of the mungamuka gorge across a fence from me while out pig hunting on private land

I remember reading of an incident in fiordland where a deer recovery crew stated they'd spotted a moa.the japanese being the eager wee beavers they were,furiously dispatched a TV crew to film this rare and exotic wildlife.

arriving at the site of the so called sighting they found a moa
a childs plastic mower hanging from a tree branch.!!

another case was on the coast IIRC around the time of Paddy Freanies sighting. a local at kumara decided to take the proverbial .so grabbing a little sheep shite ,lawn clippings and vegetation he hand rolled some moa poop .out to his shed and lo and behold a set of moa feet emerged .
a very secret trip to the taramakau riverbed to "plant the evidence "and ya guessed it the media swallowed the story hook line and sinker!
actually speaking of Paddy Freaney around that time too my younger brother owned the Fat Ladies Arms pub in palmy north ,and he ran a competition which ended with him bringing a bus load of massey students down home to the coast to moa hunt .
the "Press" did an article on LJ outside the Blackball Hlton as he spun them a yarn how his training as an altar boy at St Pats in greymouth was equivalent to Paddies Brit SAS traing ,and also as a duck shooter(no longer)hed been tutored in the mating call of the greater westcoast moa.!
It was a complete load of the proverbial but the reporter soaked it up like a bottle of gin!

Today if you travel sh73 CHCH-Greymouth you will see Paddy Freaneys moa and its child outside the Bealey Pub looking folorn as the search for their pet irishman.
theres also a pair in the paddock just as you leave otira heading to jacksons.
