    the Hori in me says make a hybrid deck....and to hell with the dinging up.... remove the bottom metal you think will get hit,make sliding compartment on existing tray and have flat deck onto the top...

    Bit more progress, removed the rear loom, disconnected the fuel tank and moved the fuel lines.
    Then got busy with the Saber saw, this cut is just to get the bulk of the deck out the way, the final trim will be flush with the back of the cab this will be done with a cutting disk and an angle grinder.
    I need to move the brace the original builder put in as it's behind the cab and will get in the way for making the back of the cab flush ready for the new flat deck. Plenty of room to put a brace inside the cab just need to buy some box section and sheet metal. Good progress today anyway.

    Too late to talk you out of it then?
    Build the new flat deck high enough to miss rear wheels when at full tuck and high enough not to need wheel arches. (Just my thoughts, worth what you paid for em.)

    I did like the look of the wellside though.

    Too late and that is exactly the plan.
    I didn't mind the wellside, but the idea of denting and garking it up didn't sit well with me, the flat deck will be alot more robust.

    Been contemplating seats since buying the truck, the factory ones I got with the truck are pretty rotten with the foam and fabric both extremely perished.
    I picked up a set of 2014 suzuki swift sports seats for dirt cheap, as I'm already going through cert modifying seat mounts is a consideration worth doing to get more modern comfortable seats.
    Before I start cutting stuff out I need to do some homework on the standards required for modified seat mounts, I can definitely make them a lot stronger but need to check what the requirements are.

    i had a truck COF issuer tell me there was NO requirement for seat to be of standard..a school chair sat on bare floor was apparently OK.....after he passed a truck whos seat leant right backwards uncontrollably.....

    that's hard to believe, but I don't doubt that's what he told you
    this is for Cert not just a COF/WOF so I suspect it will be gone over with a fine tooth comb for all non standard/bolt on mods. I want to be above standard and it will be, but also want it to be safe.

    you will have golden oppertunity to place it further back in cab too....no good for hobbits but ideal for the larger specimens like yourself.

    the seat is height adjustable and has longer rails so even if it is set further back (which it may not actually need) it will be easily adjustable to suit 95% of the population

    Would it be possible to build a hidden lockable slide-in padded gun box of some sort between the cab and headboard ? Guns up high with a second compartment below for jacks, strops, deadman etc

    well after reading over 100 pages on the LVVTA Certification site about the requirements for modifying seat mounts I think I will suck it up and buy a set of BA Falcon Xr6 seats and a set of Huracan seat rail adapters https://huracanfabrication.com/colle...t-adapter-kits
    it will save me hours of fabrication and hassles with the certifier, plus I can fit factory seats back in if that is ever a consideration in the future, as to fit the swift seats there will need to a be a lot of cutting, removing the factory seat mounts, welding and doubler plates to be fabricated. Even if I follow the LVVTA guidelines to the letter it could all end up being a massive headache
    The Huracan kit is all bolt in and very slick, Xr6 seats are comfy as too.
