    carpet on bonnet of trucks

got a 96 hilux surf that i was thinking about putting carpet on the bonnet, partly to hide the classic paint fade but mainly for resting bipods and that kinda stuff on without scratching it all up. anyone done the same to their vehicle and got some pictures? wanting a rough idea of what it would look like, also what kind of glue? is used to stick the carpet down, can it be easily taken of? does the carpet eventually fall apart from rain/mud etc? thanks for any answers

I’d use black close cell foam of about 6-10 mm thick

Hahaha.Ever been to the Waikato? Every second ute has carpet on the bonnet.
I'm not sure about glue removal, but I've never seen one with residue - maybe once you go axminster, you never go back...

If you choose to use carpet go with outdoor stuff so it stands up to the elements. And if it's glued down it aint coming off without a major shitfight I would think. If you want it removable then maybe go with tiedowns to hold it on.

I agree. You don't want carpet over your windscreen at 100 k's on a busy road!

The ones I’ve seen had the carpet attached with para cord laced backwards and forwards under the bonnet.

Marine carpet would probably be a good option

There is an outdoor carpet that starts off about 10-15mm thick and they roll and compress the hell out of it so it's dense as hell and ends up about 5mm thick. That's pretty impervious shit. There was another one called Altech ( might be spelled differently) which has raised ridges along it and you sometimes see it on stairs and ramps outside businesses. That stuff is pretty durable. I worked with a carper layer for a few months a few ( ok quite a few ) years ago.

The only thing I could think they would pull you up on is if it looked like it might fly off at speed

Some of the pig hunters down here have the local saddlery/canvas shop make up bonnet covers that are removable. Some sort of nice tidy clip or pocket system on the sides and bungees to the front.

You have to put a Metal Mulisha sticker on your back window and a box of Cody's on the back seat to make the carpet stick to the bonnet properly

In my experience the under hood temperature would probably be high enough to soften hot glue.
