    Dash Cam Recommendations

    Hi all.
I need to get a dash cam for the wifes car. It needs to have Front & Rear view as well as been completely set & forget once it's in.

I'm after opinions on what features I should be looking for, and maybe specific models to get/avoid, and is it worth fitting it myself ?

    AL.

My advice is if you buy em fit em, I brought two a year ago in they are both still sitting in their box

My problem is the sorting the power supply so it's tidy & then can't be fucked doing the software upload, will put on the holiday "to do list"
Shoot it, root it & then BBQ it !!!

If you are mounting the thing up high near the rear view mirror, the interior lights are usually fitted with a non-switched power supply. Meaning you can turn them on with the ignition fully switched off.

There is usually an interior light up by the rear view mirror, and it's fairly easy to tap off that (even without using the dreaded scotchlock wire taps). Just need to ensure that the dash cam has an auto power off feature and GPS or motion power on feature, otherwise you need an accessory wire (i.e. key or ignition on) and run that up the A pillar which can be a little painful.

Get a garmin, but be warned, the standby batteries on many of these units fail within a short space of time, I have replaced one and soldered it in.
You can get them off aliexpress cheap enough.

Yeah, mine powers up and runs OK but the battery inside it is poked. It's a pest - as it never remembers the settings and neither do I...
