Problem is the new emission regulations manufacturers have to abide by now. The reason Toyota, and pretty much everyone else as well, is going V6 is because the V8's wont meet the new regs.
So smaller capacity is the only way to get round it.
The V6 twin turbo actually makes more HP and KW than the V8.
The V8 has been plagued with issues anyway. The EGR system blocks badly, and the engines suck dust in which in turn buggers up the turbos and then engine. We've replaced lots at work.
After seeing what we have to do to them all the time, I wouldn't touch 1...not without a new car warranty anyway.
Interesting what about the later ones withe DPF? problems?
