If you're going for BIG cruiser twins, Euro bikes cost a fortune to have serviced by dealers.
Just got my '05 R1200RT back from its 80K km service - $925 thanks.
Handles pretty well, rides fine (non-electronic model, so manual spring/rebound setting required) and almost as economical as slower revving cruisers.
My recommendation - check servicing costs before plonking your hard-earned down - Ducati, BMW, Triumph, Moto Guzzi are 'rich'.
HD - if they play up - OUCH!
Jap cruisers (if that's your bag) - reliable, cheap (comparatively) to service and pretty economical (if you're not a 'big thrust at the take off' practitioner).
Sat on an M109R on the weekend.
When the legs get too short (or old), I'd be looking at one of these - or a VTX 1800 (love power).

If big block Honda interest you then check out the Honda Rune.

Or maybe the Triumph Rocket 3 will get your hand dipping into your pocket and reaching for the cash.

Thanks and cheers for all the input fellas. Been looking for a few weeks.

Previously had a couple of new and used HDs and while all good don't need or want that kind of money tied up at present.

So I bought the VTX1800. Heaps of extras (pipes , screen, bags, new Pirellis, after market shocks, power commander and lots more plus all the brand new parts that came off it )
so looking forward to it .. Honda Dealership next to work. Mates with the owner. He reckoned its awesome and they don't see any problems with these pretty much ever.

    Roll on Saturday Road Trip
