Thanks @jamie – it is so good being a member of this forum – so many people that offer to help others – thanks to all you Guys that responded
I contacted Josh and sent him all the info and also some pictures – he had a price back for all the parts suggested by Toyota in about an hour - $1600 plus gst installed – so much better than $4000 plus gst at Toyota – parts are available in Auckland and he has booked it in for Thursday next week – about a five hour job – he also offers a courtesy car

Sweet mate, happy to help and sounds like a good outcome, when I seen the work from Toyota I knew it’d be a specialist job, new compressor, vaccing out whole system, and regassing, and that’s sorta beyond my capability. Good to hear the feedback from everybody, lots of good advice, and handy people with lots of knowledge. Happy days all round!!!

@time out Only just seen this great outcome mate ,make sure you up date how it goes as it sounds like Josh is just the sort of business we should all be supporting .

I am a Tojo bloke through & through but the 2 of the many we have owned & used over the years that stand out is the exact same model of yours in the Red Mica that use to be all the go & a 1998 Sahara Turbo .Our 1HD-FTE had 350'000 on the clock when we traded it & we traded it because the Aircon was on its second regas & due another or proper fix & the dealer made us a offer we could not refuse .The 98 had 510'000 on it & l would gladly take either back again ,so look after the old girl ,we now have a 2018 Land Cruiser & Twin Cab Hilux & neither are the same build quality .

Should be able to get the required parts a lot cheaper here.

Cruiser A/C repaired and making cold air again.
Great job by Josh at Meda Mechanical – he found the fault was due to the clutch having sh.t itself. Installed a shiny new compressor complete with new clutch as well as a new receiver dryer. Old compressor had not disintegrated so TX valve was not required. This reduced cost for parts and labour. Total cost installed – was $1476 GST incl. Wow – so much better than waiting months for a Toyota to get parts and repair.
I can thoroughly recommend Josh and this business.
