    Trailer ideas

    Hey team,

so im tinkering away on the trailer, its a briford custom build i picked up a while back and slowly getting it sorted.

one of the features of the trailer is an additional towball on the draw bar. as you can see there is a gap between the jerry cans that i was going to somehow mount a small 2 kg gas cylinder 180mm wide that fits just perfectly.......if i can find a mounting bracket for it!

i was thinking of getting something like an old bike rack attachment and cut it level to the top of the trailer, that way when i put the solid steel lid on i won't hit the jerry cans and the lid is easier to lift back up. it would also double as the upright for some type tray to sit on so i could put a gas burner on it and cook?

anyone done something similar? or know of a suitable 2kg gas mount?

I think it’s a great idea, possibly because I’m contemplating similar for my caravan. I suggest you get a thick-walled bike mount as some at *#§ rubbish. My purpose is for 4hp outboard motor stand.

So something along the lines of a fire extinguisher mounting bracket but larger? A vertical steel strip with a round plate at the bottom with a small lip to hold the bottom of the gas bottle secure, then bolt to the box where the two holes already are? ratchet strop to secure the bottle type of deal?
    similar to this https://www.supercheapauto.co.nz/p/r...kg/582225.html

Or make a round version of the jerry can holder and mount off the two jerry can holders?
A flat plate on the draw bar in front of the tow ball and a ratchet strop would almost suffice too?

It would be pretty easy to make something similar to these

Hey buddy! id looked at the similar supercheap and pro rack ideas, i like the idea of coming off the draw bar is going to be an easier option for the short term, but like you noticed there are pre existing holes pretty much where i would mount, id like to say that it was my initial plan prior to mounting the jerry can holders but i didn't!

i wonder, silly thought, an L shaped bracket so the gas could sit on something and the strap system holding it in place between the jerry cans?

Yep I reckon, Add a couple of lugs to locate the bottom ring on the bottle.

I hate I am not stating the obvious, but would it not be better to unbolt the tow ball and bolt whatever rack or mount directly through the same hole? A tow ball is designed to allow lateral and some vertical movement where you want a rigid fitting. That is what I would do.

I would use the existing hole and a U bolt to fit an 'extension' to the drawbar then put a proper holder for the LPG on that between the jerry cans ....There are alread a couple of support holes in the panel to add stability as well...

those two holes...mount a l shaped hook with tall leg upwards t ohang bottle on....put a ring of steel...2" section of pipe slightly bigger than the one on bum of bottle at correct height so the hook keeps bottle in place and the ring stops it moving around..cant get away as it would have to lift up n over the hook....too easy to put wee shackle on it if worried. yes that towball will have been for a bike rack...got the same thing on our camper.

I have had my share of dodgy ones too...mostly when I was much younger and more invincible.... Sometimes it takes someone who has never even considered something to come up with a new way of solving a problem.....
