    2026 Four Season Sleeping Bag

Looking for any insight, I've decided I'm going to buy a new sleeping bag looking at a comfort level of around -1 to -5 and mainly interested in 800 loft down. Needs to be light enough to be a 'hunting bag'. So far I've come to either a Sea to Summit Spark or a One Planet Cocoon I'm interested to hear how people find these bags and any other recommendations people have. Price isn't a huge issue and could go for an even warmer bag if needed just don't want to go above a comfort limit of 0.
    Thanks

I’ve just bought a -1 spark as a light 3 season bag. Plan is to use my light down pants and jacket if I need 4 season warmth.

Only arrived with Santa so no action as yet. A lot lighter than my WM Apache 4 season bag.

Just to throw into the mix, have you had a look at a top-end quilt? Needs a slightly different approach to sleeping setup but versatile and either lighter or warmer for same weight, imo. But dont suit everyone.

I had a spark III which is rated a 3 season bag. I would rate it a 2 season at best. I now have a one planet cocoon -11 (comfort-4)which I find very good. One planet is a lot cheaper too.

Purchased from Southern Adventure and they gave me 20% off.

One Planet bags would be my pick. I have a Nitrous -3 , it weighs 600g i think from memory , brilliant for the warmer months and with a puffer jacket has been ok in the colder months as well. On my recommendation my nephew got the cocoon -11 and is very pleased with it, i would have bought the cocoon as well if i didn't already have a Domex mountaineer which is a good winter bag. At the time i was looking at Rab but they are very expensive compared to the One Planet bags.

Macpac, tapper rectangle if you like a little room to move your legs around or a mummy style for real warmth.

If you’re okay wearing a jacket to bed a quilt with a puffer offers great modularity. I always have a puffer for sitting and watching open stuff but being able to wear it to bed means I can take a fairly lightweight quilt all year round in the north island. Making sure you’re finding a camp site that’s out of the wind makes a big difference. That’s generally easy in the kaimanawas but less so in the ruahines or kawekas

I have a One Planet nitrous as my summer bag. Great bag, my only gripe is the hood is a half hood, I know they do it on a few models and pretty sure it’s on the Cocoon. I like to stuff my pillow/gear in the hood which is pretty hard with the small hood.

I have been looking at getting a new winter bag. Would opt for the full hood versions.

I’ve heard the bush lite/ winter lite are good for South Island winter
