    Best bang for buck Garmin

    Hi guys

Looking at maybe getting a new garmin with all the bells and whistles (in reach text, weather, sos and so on) for a bit more additional safety along side the plb. What is everyone using and what would you recommend? Will likely get subscription through track me as have heard only good things about them.

    Cheers

I've used inreach mini for a few years. Its served me pretty well. I have it synced with my phone so I don't have to diddle around on a little screen. Can use it for weather, sos, tracking etc. and its the cheapest option. My only complaint is that sometimes it can take a while to send/receive but its hasn't been to the detriment yet. The weather reports are crazy accurate from what I've found.

I'd consider a phone suitable to use the starlink texting. Most people carry a phone anyway and they last for ages on aeroplane mode, just ask someone to txt you a weather update. May even be able to setup a automatic one. And will also be able to use camera on spotter etc, far more versatile I reckon. But I can see the argument from both sides.

I have Garmin 66i which i hardly ever use except for messaging and forecast on extended trips. 90% of the time i never carry it as i have my phone for maps. Thinking about ditching it or swapping for mini. Once my phones compatible with Starlink having the back up mini and weather would still be good.
