Opinel gardener with the drop point:
Stainless blade, super sharp and easy to keep that way.

At 31$, it is difficult to make it much more budget for what you get in a folder.

I'm a big fan of the Victorinox 111mm pocket knives after years of using a Mercator and briefly trying a Peasant knife.

The Swiss army knives have a similar size and blade shape to the Mercator, better handle in the hand, sharpen easily and hold a good edge.
Hunt around online and they can be found for very reasonable money.

When I'm not carrying a Leatherman Wave, I'm carrying a Victorinox Locksmith

I just bought the No8 and ground a small drop point on it.

I have a soft spot for Opinel knives. My dad bought a #12 (big one) in Paris in 1980. It's become a family heirloom (poor family!), but the carbon steel blade rusts as soon as it looks at water and the handle swells if it gets wet, making it impossible to open. As much as I like it, it's just not practical. Easy to get super sharp though. Hopefully, modern versions are better.

My parents got an Opinel number 24 as a wedding gift, they divorced 25 years later.
Moral of the story: don’t buy a knife as Wedding gift .

My first "big" folding knife after the various Victrinox multi's that were a rite of passage in my family was an Opinel, simple no bells and whistles, did what it said on the tin, the only reason I don't have one as my everyday is no clip, never got mine wet enough to swell but yeah, gotta stay on top of the oiling and for me thats contrary to what an everyday is, they just need to take abuse and keep an edge without any molly coddling and a clip, they definitely need a clip

All I've done to stop the swelling is put a few drops of olive oil near the pivot point as well as some rub some candle wax on the exposed areas. Seems to have helped a lot.

I won't use opinels for hunting, as the wood swells in wet and humid weather. It means you can't open them
