Hmmm. Don't want to splash out big money just to get different colour options.

Think I will dig out the Sharpies ;)

I have one of these, yes heavy and not really a good option for a de-dome (4x led chip). But FAAAAAAAAAAA it trows out some lumens! Can light up a whole tree at once. Heavy but ok for 2-3 hours of hauling around a farm. Good for possums and rabbits within .22 or shot gun range. Not a lot of throw (less than half the Maxtorch) so wouldn't be my choice for deer or rabbits at long range.
@gadgetman do you have any pcbs left for m24 torches? Looks like mine has died. batterys ok tail cap checked and swapped out led glows with diode tester, sort of just leaves the pcb?
Can the pcbs be ordered ?
are you guys talking about colour filters? if so I have a bunch of proper colour gels, the stuff that is used in lighting colour jobs etc.
@gadgetman
I'm keen on a few extra 18650 rechargeable batteries for my maxtoch.
Haven't got time to order some from aliexpress so of all those available on Trademe what would you recomend.
I need 4 i reckon.
Cheers

Very cool guys ... :)
Question guys, I have a Trustfire SST 50, and I think the LED has given up the ghost
Can these be replaced ?
Seems a shame if not, because the torch feels like it was built to last forever, it’s a solid piece
Cheers
Thanks @terryf
Can’t find one for the SST 50
Any idea if a SST 90 would fit ?
Cheers
Attachment 107708Ok, I’m trying to replace the LED on a Trustfire SST 50
It’s sat in my draw for 6-8 weeks, an I need to actually do it
Trouble is, I can’t find out how the old LED comes out
Is it glued in ?
Youtube / internet is no help, most of the stuff on there is Russian speaking anyway
Any ideas ?
Can’t be too hard surely ? ( says the guy who can’t figure it out :wtfsmilie: )
@gadgetman if anyone will know how to ungerfunk the werzelbrack it’ll be you so help this fellah will ya?
@Frogfeatures looks like it is glued on with thermal glue. A bit like thermal paste but a glue. Use a strong screwdriver and you should should be able to pry it off.
Done !
And it works, is it obvious that I’m bloody amazed ?
Having all the electrical appitude of a dead frog, it’s some kind of miracle !
Anyway, I have a LED, and a driverboard, for a Trustfire SST 50 spare, just PM me if anyone wants it.
Thanks for the advice guys.
Did some hunting light comparisons tonight. Local gunsmith showed me his brand new Olight M3Xs-UT Javelot he'd just bought ($240 new), and asked how it compared with the Maxtochs now on the market. Took my Maxis and a lux meter round to his place and did some tests. Very interesting. I have an older Maxtoch M24, a recent 2X, and a new model XPro.
The new Olight looked quite glary on the wall but the meter soon clarified actual output. The older M24 showed a softer warmer beam tint, and had a wider beam spot - better for scanning. The Olight had 88% of the output of the older Maxtoch M24, 68% compared to the Maxtoch 2X, and had about 53% of the output of the new XPro - about half.
The story didn't end there...the Olight uses an XPL HI LED which gadgetman and I rejected for the Maxtochs because it chews too much current, runs too hot, and has to stepdown after a few minutes to alot lower output - while the Maxis can remain at 100% power for full batt life. So after 8-9 minutes, the Olight had dropped down to 57% of the M24's output, about 40% of the output of the 2X, and about one third the output of the new Maxtoch XPro. Gunsmith was gobsmacked and immediately wanted a Maxtoch...and managed to extract one.. :)
Still the best all round hunter lights on the planet. And some new kiwi design maxtochs coming too
Try and get one that is single mode. Avoid the cells they supply with the torches, they hold very little charge. When you can buy a good charger, such as a Nitecore. Buy genuine protected button top Panasonic (or other good name brand) cells from NZ.
Oh and de-dome it, or get me to, when you can.
Hi Everyone,
Where is everyone getting there torches from?
Looking at getting a Maxtoch Shooter 2X wide angle.
@burtonator was bringing them in but haven't seen any for a while, @gadgetman or @mudgripz may have a spare one. Failing these options, aliexpress
If @gadgetman has a spare I have first dibs on it
Are the batteries and charger that are supplied with them decent? Or would it be a better idea to get the bare torch and say a nitecore charger and batteries?
The batteries are good, but you can't go wrong with a nitecore :)
These are the ones you want. I think they are rebranded Panasonics

You will be able to find some cheaper elsewhere on Aliexpress but it will be lucky dip if they are genuine ones. Panasonic 3400 or 3500mAhr are what you want to drive the big Maxtoch torches
Eldarado, this is the de domed ass kicker ( until the uber thrower is finished :)

I'd avoid the Maxtoch charger and get a Nitecore.
