scary sharp - made in Hawera are very good but expensive for a fathers day present - but will last for years and you will have a lot of mates wanting to use it - why not a decent oil stone -if one of you were good with wood make a nice box for it - I use an oil stone every now and then on my knives and just touch up with a diamond lap - or just a diamond lap a nice size one are around $50-60 -mind you if you were filthy rich a proper Swedish electric sharpening system with wet wheel and leather polishing wheel - yeah hah real nice - warning there is a lot of gimicky ones out there especially those cheap elertric ones with a V slot
I have the Sweedish Tormek you mentioned. Yes was expensive, but its the only one that caters for everything & my grand kids will still be using it long after I'm gone.
Never a dull blade in my house! Tomato sharp every time easy.
