Yeah seeing all Shaneo's gear got me interested, proves the point that it's best to see stuff in the flesh.

I probably came across as a moaning arsehole in the first post of this thread but here's what got me started.

I was staying at a mates place when the conformation e-mail came through & he commented that $46 was a rip off as he regularly buys in footwear from the States and shipping is either free or $10 max, so this was the main reason for posting and I should of worded it " Is $46 US good market value" for shipping costs.
Now regarding what my mate said, thinking about it he is most probably buying from retail shops that can subsidise the shipping into the purchase price.

Re -Kuiu, I didn't want this turning into a thread about whether it's good gear or their selling model will work in NZ or not.
Shaun was good enough to contact me and we have sorted it out the confusion, It was a busy weekend at the Sika show & I probably wasn't listening properly & I'm sure they will Improve their system re- checking stock supply, quoting etc.

I hope their business does well and I will probably buy more gear in the future, buying direct is how Kuiu runs things so I'll just have to get use to it, but having someone in NZ to deal with works better for me as I'm a very hands on sort of consumer.

Some great knowledge here and most questions have already been answered

As "Sidney" mentioned, it can get tricky combining orders to reduce shipping costs as it adds other factors that equally drive up the cost (e.g. processing expenses, shipping once landed in NZ, GST and Duty, etc). Bulk orders can be done by individuals within a bunch of friends if that is the route that works best for them. The South Pacific distribution centre is yet to have eta. At the moment the primary focus is on exploring other shipping options to make shipping more cost effective for NZ and international orders.

Some you have touched on the issue of backordered items and lack of stock available, in which I totally understand your frustration. KUIU has grown much faster than anticipated and the hard thing for them is to forecast sales numbers accurately. They are improving this all the time and are increasing the quantities of stocked inventory and therefore lowering the number of items on backorder. So this is a constantly improve system. One thing I advise people to do is to plan what hunting gear you need to improve before your existing item is completely useless, or plan well before your big hunting trip instead of the weeks leading up to it. I understand that this isn't as practical or as easy as it sounds, but it will help in getting the items you need well before your planned hunt/s. It also means you will have time to look into all options availible, rather than a last minute dash down to hunting and fishing store.

I appreciate that a lot of you are already KUIU customers, and that you have persevered through shipping costs, backorders and waiting for stock to become available. This will all improve in time, and so will the advancement of KUIU's technology and creating the latest hunting gear. If any of you have frustrations with an order or product, please let me know so I can sort it for you or pass the message on to HQ and compile the improvements that need to happen to keep our customers satisfied here in NZ. Also, if you thinking about a particular product, get hold of me I can tell you the benefits of the items you are deciding on (for example; durability comparisons for NZ environment, tahr hunting vs sika hunting options, comparing the 4 types of rain gear, or the 5 different pant options, etc). Since I wear it all the time and hear regular feedback from customers and hunting guides. I know what's working in NZ environment (and how tough us Kiwis are on gear). So keep that in mind.

Also, if some of you are regularly buying stuff from the US, it would be great to hear what companies are providing the best shipping rates to NZ. I can look into the company and find out who the shipping company is. Thanks in advance

DHL by a country mile

This is what works for me;

Purchase online in the US using my US postal address
Free ground shipping within the US ( 7-10 days ) to me in Torrance CA
Consolidate packages, do online customs declaration.
Choose shipping method 3-5 or 6-10 working days, insured or not.
.....(don't declare at $125 and in sure it for $1000 if you get my drift.)
DHL to NZ.
If it's pre cleared thru Customs it goes straight to NZ Post for delivery through their Courier Post network. They distribute for DHL.

I have found usps the best price wise so far.
Generally get the items in 4 - 7 days aswell

I've got their Guide Jacket and Attack pants. I have a Youshop account, and got them sent there. $22 NZD for shipping. Really like the jacket, testing the pants tomorrow!
I bring in quite a bit of gear through youshop. I think the minimum charge is $17, and they tend to repackage items to make it cheaper.
I had some Danner boots sent over, and the original quote was atronomical, but they repackaged and worked out cheaper.
I recommend Youshop.

I would'nt buy in bulk, if the total goes over $400NZD you get stung with duties and GST.
