To be honest I would not bother with anything that uses AA or AAA to power it, they are very low energy density compared to Li-Po cells like the 18650. ie, you will need to carry more weight and volume with anything AA/AAA powered to get the same light as Li-Po. The LED Lensers focusing system (along with all the other focusing systems) is very inefficient when you zoom them so they do not throw the light very far. If you want a headlamp to get you a good distance then you are better off with a fixed head.

I use one of these and it is good for about 300m and comes with gear so you can charge batteries.

Yes the lumen and battery capacity claims are fanciful in the adds but they are nonetheless quite robust and way out perform anything that LED Lenser has ever produced.
