Duct tape has proven good for emergency bandages for myself before. And some bits of old inner tube for fire lighting

    Keep hydrated
When it is a bit cool outside and you’re climbing a hill put your sweatshirt in your daybag so you don’t sweat too much. When you stop for a rest put it on. Take off again when moving.

Compass on a cord around your neck, when you shoot an animal in tussock country (especially with rolling hills and dead ground) , take a bearing on the animals last position prior to shot, take a gps way point on your own position so you have a back bearing if you need to search the ground. Helpful if you have used a rangefinder to get it exact too. Works for a hasty shot on Fallow in Matagouri belts too.

Cable tie around rifle trigger guard, locate behind trigger with ratchet mechanism on the inside of the guard. Tighten, cut off loose end. Stops trigger over travel on my SMLE and is totally light weight, strong and reversible.

I take dental floss, I’m yet to find a stronger string in a more compact container and there is nothing worse than trying to hunt with an annoying bit on meat stuck in your teeth

I used to use dental floss for tying a ‘fillet’ of pilchard on a hook when catching Kahwai

A pair of kitchen rubber gloves. Weighs nothing but when you are way out in the boonies and not close to water you can gut your animal(sl) and still have hands clean enough to get a drink afterwards without covering everything in blood.

Trick I learnt from adventure racing is wear only thin glove liner gloves (polypro or merino) then if get cold hands put kitchen gloves over the top. Toasty warm and much lighter than bulky gloves.
