    Thank you.
The handle slabs are pohutukawa, and I'm happy with the colour they took after oiling.
The new owner is Argentinian, and this is going to be his BBQ knife.

Pattern welding in yhe modern sense.

In older steel production processes like japanese tamagahane the repeated folding and hammering out was to used to get rid of impurities and slag as well as infuse the iron with carbon to make it hardenable.

Ngas knife is 5 layers of material forge welded together. No folding required.

Steel is Magnacut. Blade is hollow grind, but hard to see on the pictures, made on an 25 inch weel, handle is a palisander variety and sheath is made from 3m cow hide. Hope you like her!

    Cheers LMP
Thats a great blade shape. What’s the blade length?

The folding process was also used to reduce carbon content if needed.

I bought a different pattern of VG10 stainless Damascus to try. Its similar to the random pattern I have used before, but with more contrast with straight lines in the pattern. And I picked up some water buffalo handle material at the Melbourne knife show to try.

As mentioned, the steel is VG 10 Damascus etched in Gator Piss. The bevel is a full flat grind. The handle material is buffalo horn with red G10 liners, brass Loveless bolts and brass lanyard tube. The handle has been hand sanded to 1000 grit, then buffed and waxed. The photos show a lot of reflection on the handle material - its quite shiny.

The other end of the spectrum I bought a $20 delivered knife off Ali Express just to see how they go. Meant to be D2. Might be cos it hasn’t stained. Held an edge good enough for son to take pin boned hq’s and back steaks off, and after I stropped it I skinned a couple of back legs and took 2 shoulders off.
It’s tiny, but an ok spare for in my pack. Has a decent handle. Quite a nice little cheap option. Says the guy who owns 20 or so Bark Rivers’.
