Hey, has anyone got a stoney creek hybrid jacket .What do you think of it.
Its made in China so I think very little of all stoney creek gear.
Stoney creek is poo. I think they dont care about quality anymore and more on the cost of production. Id look at other brands if i were you.

Boo to Stoney Creek there gear has gone to the dogs actually even there dog coats are rubbish
Yip got a hybrid jacket. All good for keeping the wet out, does keep the wet in too :( Had it a few years holding up sweet looks new still.
Id listen to the others though they obviously have owned one and have first hand results.
This thread makes me wanna take my stillwater jacket back to the guys at stoney creek and shove it up their asses. Everyone elses gear is shit why am I the odd one out with a jacket that works! Hell I've sat at the lake in a blowy southerly with rain that never stopped for over 3 hours straight and was still warm and dry. Hell my phone in my pocket was still bloody dry.
Dont you worry I'll be writting an angry letter to them to inform them their gear isnt working though
I like that toby and gibo... I have need of a new jacket when I can afford one.( could be a while)
I have I think a stony creek day pack( but would have to check cos I am not a brand guy) and it ripped between the strapps the first time it was used (overloaded with venison) but to its credit hasnt got any worse. Main zip shit itself the other day.
Before I slag it too much I better check it actially is a stony creek [emoji2]
stoney what?
Dont they have some type of warranty? Send it back to get it fixed?
Nah Dont they sort the repair/replacement in nz ?
I own a bunch of sc stuff . Clothing and day bags. Never a problem with any of it.
i guess if people dont like the fact its made in china-why buy it?
Nah mate don't like the fact that zips crap out, stitching comes away at seams, straps pull off on packs and when you do send it back it gets fixed, then it comes back with the same problem but some where else. Then have a big sook to the rep and you get a replacement item and it does the same again. Couldn't give a shit where its made as long as its quality. Its just cheap crap with a premium price tag... In my opinion of course-which ain't gonna change anytime soon.
Their old stuff when they first came out is the only stuff Ive had no issues with.
Havent had a problem with my stony creek jacket. Touch wood yetttttttttttttt.
I like my jacket which is a tarn 3, held up in fiordland real good and i wore it all the time
The local Rep lives just up the road, drives passed every now and then with the odd deer on the back of the company ute! I'll copy this and drop it in his mail box for you!:D
Knock on his door and ask for a back steak in return
Just looked and yep its a stony creek bush walker pack, bout the right size for a day pack but cannot handel the weight of a days venison in it,straps cut into shoulders too.
some people are harder on gear than others i use army surplus packs they seem to last
Got a Stoney Creek Huntlite (?) jacket and it is fine
I just want to write "fuck stoney creek" but its a bit blunt so I have added these extra words too.
:D stop beating round the bush and tell us how you really feel :D
I don't rate or use the hunting stuff....
But last year when after 10 years my Swazi one tough mother finally shat out I went looking for a replacement.
While only a year old it's holding up to the abuse.

We are good at bagging the Chinese but many people don't know most of the things we buy are manufactured there. its not the Chinese so much as how good the processes are of those companies ( not Chinese owned) are. Good quality control, in a modern factory means good repeatable produce. Most of the good manufactures are there and when they have finished they will move to India or another cheaper labour force. I've noticed most of my hunting gear is sourced in China and all of it is good
TJM your dead right, if we boycotted Chinese made it would get very plain and very expensive very quickly. They make a product to a price - some good stuff comes out of there but it comes down to material and QC.
Wait for global free trade - then were all fkd. I know I don't work for x-yen a hour
Anyone with preconceived ideas about China could do worse than read "Where underpants come from" by Joe Bennett.
Made in china or not if your products are badly designed then they will still fail. Its ok wait another 20 years till they pump out something decent
Ive got one of the first Hybrids and thrashed it ,,,held up good so far ,,,,not sure what the new ones are like?? ,,,the new camo colour they are using doesnt do it for me
I haven't used any stoney creek stuff so can't comment directly about it.
I've seen a bunch of posts on here by people who buy the hunting brand jackets and then bash them in short order. Most of those hunting brands use layering systems, yet people bash the jackets due to not breathing, not being waterproof, not being warm enough, etc, etc. In my experience there is no "all-round" jacket. I can't recall seeing a post from someone bashing the whole system, just these endless "so and so jacket is crap" type posts.
Read plenty of bad things about the Hunters Element Extreme XTR jacket or whatever the hell the one I have is called. To me it's been great though. It's not warm unless you have warm clothes underneath it. It's water/windproof, packs down small and has awesome pockets and heat vents. That's all it's designed for. It doesn't surprise me people slam it for not being warm enough or not breathing.
I guess all i'm saying is I appreciate Toby's posts and use whatever jacket you buy the way it's designed and with the other layers it's designed to be used with :P.
I was going to buy Chinese on the way home for dinner. Might can that idea now.
Cheers MattyP, Im only new to this forum & can't believe all the negative responses, they can't even recommend anything that's better.
That's all I asked for.
Just grab it bro.
Well said MattyP, I agree.
Stoney Creek is a hell of a lot better than Ridgeline. On a par with much of my Hunters Element and 25% behind Swazi. Each has their design strengths and weaknesses and most warmer jackets get as heavy as when wet and most raincoats are as cold as a bastard. The hybrid is my next jacket if I find some coin soon as I cannot afford the Swazi.
Layer it and keep cool till after school.
Ollie Olsen??
Mate you asked for peoples opinions, you got them. You didn't ask for recommendations, but seens now you want a recommendation... I recommend an outdoor brand gortex jacket such as Macpac/kathmandu etc. light and work the best from experience regarding breathing and keeping dry. Downside is a short back so doesn't keep ass dry when sitting. Also got a Swazi tahr anorak thing which I don't like either, its hot and end up wet inside. Hope that makes you feel better.
Wet ass = cold ass = winter bottom = frosty :D its all there
All good, i'm relatively new too (couple years). I wear one of those lightweight moisture wicking skin layers and then a jacket/coat on top of that. More like a windproof shell with a bit of fleece in it and heat vents. That combo works good in most weather.
Get hot? Open heat vents. Get hotter? Go down to the under layer which i've never really had to do but i'm pretty acclimatized to heat from working in 50+ degrees.
Get cold? Zip up heat vents and pull out the 2nd layer from pack and wear under that shell as a 2nd layer. It's basically just polar fleece but it has all sorts of fancy names now. Furnace layer I think Hunters Element call it.
Get colder? Pull out the full blown water/windproof jacket and throw on top as layer number 4. Still got 2 lots of heat vents in layers 3 and 4 if you're moving and steaming up.
Pretty easy to have 4 layers with you this way. Wear 2 and carry 2 in pack, both of which pack down pretty damn small. I thought all this layering stuff was marketing BS when I started out, but I gave it a go and it does work.
spanner in the works, i just got some George river Stoney Creek pants last week, WITH A DRYSEAT in them! super pants, loops for belt, vents for heat, only pants in the shop that didnt seem like fkn skinny jeans,,,,,,,
Nice.
You don't want skinny jeans either that's for sure! You want enough room under them for another layer of warm stuff.
Yep and balls.
