    Stove tents

I have been looking at these for a while. Based in Marlborough, imported. Double skinned and able to fit a hot stove inside. Look to be good for a 4wd base camp or heli trip. Compared to the MIA appear more robust in the wind? Not so sure in comparison with the tee pee style hot tents out there.
Anyone having purchased one of these yet for review? They seem to sell well according to the website as I have been watching them come and go.

There is also a China copy of these tents being sold in NZ for far cheaper but apparently thinner material?

The chap was a member here. Good and reliable and sells good stuff. Has connections with the Russian region where the tents are made. He knows his tent products well. Just don’t mention the war.

I think his interests are Ukrainian, though I stand to be corrected. Nice chap Sarvo.

The Russian stuff he sells is far far superior to anything the Chinese would produce. The Ruskies are hunting shooting jet boating fishing types in weather down to -25 degrees. You die if your tent isn't up to scratch in that environment.

I've had a bit to do with the Canvas wall tents, here in Canada, deluxe wall tent (Cranbrook BC)are proper the best, Norseman, Montana, and Airdire Canvas AB, very high following,
from my experience the Nylon type, as you have shown, burn holes a lot easer than Sun forge HD Canvas.
by far, the best Outfitter wall tent trips, I have done were Deluxe 12x14, with a 5 foot porch.
Make sure you have a spark arrester, for any wood burner, with tent. sum trips we added, a light tarp over the top, to protect tent,
the stove, sure makes a tough day hunting in cold conditions, a great deal better, dry out sum gear, and warm up before climping in the scratcher.

I got some boots of Sarvo....He was very good to deal with. I got the wrong size so he shipped me the correct size and sorrted it out pronto. I think I got some 2-24x 50 binos from him too....(Yukon?) Bit heavy to hunt with but great when you have fly dumpers visiting the subdivision.....

Have one, they're excellent! Top bloke and very reliable!

Edit: I wouldn't touch the Chinese ones if you want something that'll last.

Peter is his name, Sarvo was his username.
    He's one top bloke.
I've bought boots and two different Thermals from him over the years.
    He stands by his sales.

Don't worry - never going to buy the chinese copy but I have to suspect others have as they are stocked in NZ.
And yes - you would be crazy not to have a spark arrester on your tent stove - I already have a tent stove which is used external to my current bushbuck tent and most if not all have a spark arrester fitted - common sense for tents!
I was just after someone's review in NZ so appreciate Dublin your feedback - some pics in use might be handy if you have some? Just haven't seen any hunting stories to date with them in use in NZ. Like who's taken them into the alps by heli (they are longer than usual when packed).

That's brilliant erniec. Great links. Just what I needed. I didn't realise they had been on the forum before. I brought my tent stove off the forum during a bulk buy then the Ukraine war started when I was looking at likely Sarvo's site when supply stopped. I didn't start looking again until recent. Got some decisions to make now. Thanks guys.

Yep Sarvo was on the forum and was a good contributor.
Pity he as Tahr said did not ignore war, politics etc as he posted stuff that was very good and I think appreciated by many.
Mind you others have done the same.
And who knows may be back on here for all we know.
I think in some ways we loose by being semi anonymous.

I have had the up2 model for a few years now. I brought from Sarvo when he was on the forum.
Really good to deal with. The product is great. I don’t think you would be disappointed if you brought one.
I used to run a spark arrestor but found it fouled if you banked the fire down overnight so removed it. No burn holes so far. I also cut a piece of polythene as a ground sheet to protect the floor from rocks etc.
For extra space for gear, sitting n cooking I use a kiwi camping gazebo placed partially over the tent.

I have the UP-5 and stove. A solid tent for a base camp. I've had it in very bad winds in central SI and it is solid. The stove really gets the tent hot in NZ conditions. The door on it is awesome vs. using a zip all the time. Setup is fast, but the weight/bulk means it's something to be carried by car (or heli). The designers paid attention to a lot of small details like interior pockets, places to hang cords to dry gear, etc. Once the tent is setup, a full grown man can hang from the center and the dome will not budge. It's very strong.

As it were, I bought it but I have a large family and it's tight for the six of us, but a palace for a couple hunters. I may be forced to sell to upgrade to something larger.
