    Fish for the kids

    Hi All

I have sea fishing experience in the UK but since moving here not long ago we have bought a family freshwater licence and have been to the lake Roto Kohatu and had a really good couple of hours catching little trout. They are 5 and 7 years old.

They want one for the table if possible and being too windy to try for a Kahawai off the New Brighton pier (been a few times and caught tiny ones) is it just a case of going to any river and having a try or are there some to avoid?

    TIA

pretty sure there are some man stocked ponds near you...the groins??? or some such...fish and game will tell you where is good for kids. if its legal,drowning/teaching worms to swim is VERY effective method ,and lends itself to kids as they can prop rod on stick and do "other stuff" within 15??mtrs of it...
