When it all comes together it goes so right , got home to meet VC in the drive way, got to the ramp to find that we could launch into the creek ,the wind dropped away to nothing .. headed down the creek with just just enough water to motor, got to the dive spot with enough vis to hunt the crays.

Hit a patch of rock with a cray that was silly enough to hold fast , then after a bit of a search found a second that did very silly things instead of escaping it panicked and backed into a no where crack, so he got a free boat ride as well.

Nothing much else about, surfaced and asked VC so I’ve got two do you think we can catch the tide, steamed for the channel got over the bar with less than a meter to spare, saved us from a couple of hours sitting and waiting in the cold and dark for the flood tide , beached the boat , the tide dropped away trailered the boat easily, thanks to the skipper being bloody good at what he does!

Home just before my good lady got home , hot shower and a cold beer. Happy Lisa happy stingray.
Sometimes you just crack it ! This evening was one to enjoy and remember!

Once again cheers VC bloody excellent!

Where and how and on what you got it? I like squid fishing very very much because I like to cook and eat squid. I am not trying to know your spot, just like to know the knowledge of squid fishing in NZ. Thank you
    So be it

Ah yes I remember coming back with a similar amount before I assume you are using burly and changing types of bait ( assuming your using bait). I've found when all else fails fresh mussel will catch what's around ( even if that's not what your after ) My "go to" baits are Bonito, Mullet, Pilchards, Kahawai and mussels ( buy fresh from the supermarkets)

Had three surf rods out running different rigs and different baits including softbaits but not mussel, thought about mussel, perhaps next time. Two guys up the beach from us had several 400m lines out with at least half dozen hooks on each deployed by drones, no luck for them as well.

My pick would be the south side of the harbour. Land based fishos always seem to do better on that side. Areas immediately around the refinery and port hold a good number of fish. Ruakaka if you want a more peaceful setting. Weather is going to be shit this weekend.

Mixed deep water bag from the Bay of Islands. Mate was using bait and I was using a jig.

What sort of depth? Sand or foul? I'm keen to target terakihi out from Whangaroa.

120 metres. A big rock on an otherwise sandy bottom. My mate was catching terakihi to order on skipjack tuna chunks.
