    Floundering around

    On the annual migration to Whiti this holiday I was hoping to do a bit of floundering in the harbour.

    Havent really done it before, got a spear and underwater torch.

    Has anybody chased them round there? any spots or tips would be much appreciated.

    While I'm on the fishing subject I usually go spear fishing up round devils point and have noticed the odd juvenile blue cod, is there anywhere in Mercury Bay I could hook a mature fish?

    I used to do a bit of floundering for a while. I normal spot the eyes. Try walk against the tide so the dirty water is behind you. Carry an onion bag to put them it

    Was just saying to the wife on Tuesday that I might go to the Auckland fish market and buy some Blue Cod as never had it before. I don't know where the market is but will follow the Remuera tractors

    There is a good one down at the Viaduct

    Went in there about 10-12 years ago for a look. Whole area has changed now.
    What is a good simple way to cook cod? frying pan? BBQ? wrapped in foil with onion and tomato? (great for tuna)

    No worries mate, I havent had blue cod since ages ago when I lived down south its bloody beautiful just don't see it much up here. old man used to just chuck in the pan with a knob of butter only an hour out of the tide, used to flake to bits but unbeatable in my books

    If you have got a kayak you can cruise up pretty much on top of them before they get spooked makes life real easy
