The finished version of the 210mm stickbait I posted at the foil stage recently. This is my favourite one so far- love how the foil pattern still shows through the blue along the sides. Still a pretty straightforward design, but very effective visually. Put a wee blood spatter effect on the belly too.

@kukuwai alas, other than testing the actions out I haven’t had time to fish them yet. They’ll be seeing a lot of water over the summer though.

Something I’m trying out on a couple of lures I’m currently working on. Once polished and inset I think they’ll make for quite cool eyes! Putting the mighty .270 to work on both deer and kings. When they’re finished I think I’ll be naming these lures ‘Surf and Turf’

Great idea! Not sure about the caliber but love the look. I used the same for inserts to hold the string on a roaring horn I made.

Wish I’d found this thread a bit sooner! My son has caught the fishing addiction (not a bad thing) and we’ve started tinkering with making some lures at home. Got a bit of advice from a local mate that makes some amazing stuff, but we’re very much at the early stages and using tools we have, and our painting is limited to rattle cans so far. Keen to look at an airbrush, but never touched one before. Also need to figure out the foil side of things. Using a mix of paulownia and scrap timber lying around the garage. Getting better at the through wire and inserting a couple small ball sinkers for weight. Just made up a basic lure turner for doing the epoxy coats.

The very first lures were shaped by my son using a rasp. Started out by twisting the wire loops, but have moved on the crimping.

Those look great @nzspearo. Nice shapes on those blanks. Looks like you’re doing well with what you’ve got- while certain tools can speed up the process you can make some great lures with basic tools. I’ve started out the same way with what I’ve got and trial and error.

I need to get myself some paulownia. Not sure where to source it round Welly. Been making all mine so far out of pine, which is fine- easy to work and getting nice actions off my lures, but I’d love to reduce the weight on my larger lures. Just got given some garapa decking offcuts from a fishing buddy which I’m planning on using to make some sinking lures for trolling for tuna over the coming summer.
