    Rotorua lakes

    Hi all.
If anyone is traveling through and may want a rod, waders, locations, tips etc to catch a few locals please sing out.
Obviously catching a lot of great trout locally and good for an old or young bugger to learn a few tricks, even though I’m no Captain Kilwell.

@TeRei off a boat or shore based, it's a lovely lake, been a long time since I have fished Okataina

@Danny nice Brown Trout was that shore based? Just shifted back to Ohope so will definitely be in touch to get some tips and ideas for the local lakes, grew up in Pongakawa so spent my early childhood on the lakes.

    Cheers FBD

    Nice one.
This was at the entrance at Waiteti in Ngongotaha, Wading out.
Most nymph but I don’t, I find it boring.
This fish is rather slabby but still went 8lb.
One caught two days ago was an absolute beautiful brown fish and was released.

Jigging off an IBC inflatable. Using Daiwa gear like Pat Swift and home made flies. 10M water. He brought some magnificent smoked trout down for Xmas. He is a fishhead. There is no doubt trout fed on koura equal the best Atlantic salmon. Apple wood mixed with smouldering chunks of kanuka. It is crazy nice.

I just spent 3 days on the Tongariro, was debating going over, but road delays, 1/2 way to taupo,
Lots small fish, got hooked up to a couple nice browns, but not landed,
May e next time, and nice offer,

Be good to catch up if you ever get the time, very much appreciated what you did for me some time back.

I fished Tongariro when I was growing up as my Uncle managed the Hatchery in Tūrangi.

I remember the ice forming on fingers asI drew in the fly line., walked home to put hands in hot water to learn a lesson that that is in fact a rather “bad idea”…
