Summer steelhead yesterday with my youngest fulla…. 2 a piece just below the Bonneville dam in 40 minutes… bloody magic…. Small, yes but what beautiful fish, great feed
Check out the … Puhoi pub singlet…..lol
Don't think I will be bothering chasing them this year.
Limit bag is 1 fish per season. Just not worth the investment.
My dad has said this will be the first time in 67 years he wont bother buying a licence.
If F&G answer to poor salmon number is to constantly lower the limits and nothing else I think pretty soon their licence revenue is going to fall thru the floor.

Thats a shame @mikee… currently fishing the mouth of the Columbia river ,Buoy 10…. Current season in native and hatchery can be kept … either 2 coho ,or 1 coho/1chinook per day ,limit 20 …..then you can buy another tag and start again….currently over the Bonneville dam ,close to 500k chinook
My boy and I have done well this season,28 salmon between us ,the run has been good and the fish very chromie and fat…coho in great shape
The take all (native/hatchery)ends September the 17th so we have a couple more days …

STREWTH mate … those are crackers ….. where (location)may I ask…..
All from Rakaia mouth; probably early 1970's.
Limit was 6 fish and a few years later reduced to 4. Not unusual to catch the limit Feb - Mar when the salmon were running.
Sadly those days are gone
I see a old Farmill M in the back ground? My father had a H.I havnt brought a fishing licence in 7 yrs.Loved the river salmon fishing.Waitaki,Rangi and Rakaia. But $140 for 2 salmon license a season and 220k round trip.Better to chase deer i reckon.
Top right is our old 1924 Case, and the red one is an old Massey Harris I think (could be wrong). No quads or S x S in those days.
Great to be a kid catching trout and big salmon back then

2 of these today … Coho salmon…. Some of the best for smoked salmon ,caught on soft spinners I’ve made….
5kgs…and3.5 kgs…. These fish are beautiful to play and eat
The Chinook run downstream…. (When hooked)The Coho upstream…(when hooked). Playing them before they spit the hook is such a great challenge …. Double single hooks or trebles work great…. Luck with them is everything
