    Sea Temp

Sea temp off Canterbury was 17.9 deg , Thats what we would expect mid Summer . @ Mikee I picked up on your sea temps in Nelson bay 21.5 , I'm picking thats the same as us mid summer temp ?. My question is the rate its going could we expect to See the bigger Tuna & Mahi Mahi turn up ? . The way its going we could be in the low 20s in Canterbury & nelson in mid 20s ? . @Gibbo Whats your knowledge on fish species to Water temps ? . King fish are now a regular summer fish now Cant coast ( Mosty Rats but the odd big ones) . Last summer I herd of snappers(brim) being caught here too.

Yep 20-20.5 in the sounds where I have been the last few days.
Went for a snorkle with no wetsuit..
Top 2 feet of water warm as......below that temp dropped markedly!

Yeah temps are up early this year. Marlin were caught off top of west coast last year. Some of the older commercial skippers think it wont be too long before some are caught in the outer tasman bay. A couple of years ago a Big Eye was caught along the boulder bank!!
Tuna were scarce down here last year and the commercial guys had a hard time finding the albies too, hope its better this year.
Personally I have never seen so many red cod in the bay.

All those with dogs waiting no longer fear death. Those with many dogs waiting even welcome it in it's time.

A guy I know is out on the water at the moment. Hit the water at 10am and he and his mate had landed a nice fat kingie each by midday.

If my fish finder temp can be believed it was 15°-16°c around Jacksons Bay last week.
I remember it being around 21-22 when diving mid summer down there but not sure what the average is.

I've heard through the grapevine that kingies have been caught here for three weeks or so.
