What would be the max distance you would travel to go to a forum fishing weekend? we could always organize one for waihi beach and also really tempted to try and get one going for mokau or somewhere like that to see what the west coast down towards the naki can do. At present I am in the process of trying to upgrade the surfcaster to something bigger and better than the 12 foot abu garcia I bought from the warehouse back in 07 seeing i like to fish both east and west coasts.

Max distance : 150-200 km maybe . I'm running a pair of 16' Penn power sticks @ $100- $120 not expensive but do the job.
The big rod is a big lever sorts things pretty quick ,my biggest ray so far is 65lb .

I used to have a penn powerstick that was set up with a daiwa reel and spooled with 50lb braid used to love that rig and caught some really good fish on it but some little bastard stole it out of my wagon one night many years ago while I was staying in a motel in thames. Looking into a 15 foot shakespeare ugly stick gold or a 16 foot shimano I was going to do a layby last week but I just have to wait for a couple of weeks to see whats gong on before I do anything in the upgrade department.
