That's massive. Wasn't on pelagic charters was it? they got a big eye that sort of size today. That's one amazing fish.

Personally I like livey fishing best. But what ever is working is the go.

Last fish had quite a range in it.

Well while this fishing was good last weekend we thought it'd be rude not to see if it'd been a fluke. Yesterday was 6 from 8 bites. Another epic bit of fishing. Hard to believe this is happening in November. We caught our saw yellowfin this year in June. It's becoming a year round game season once we add in Southern bluefin and Northerns at cape Brett. All yf were successfully released yesterday.
@Chur Bay , At the moment they're getting them in 100m. That only 5 klm off. Although it's a bit of a run out through the bay. Mate is fishing up there in his little 4.5m ramco. Just choose ya weather wisely and take enough gas. In summer it can be very worthwhile taking liveys. Then you gan drift, save gas and if you hump a marlin you have a very high chance of hookup.

Or two lures and hope it works. There's usually the odd skippy around as well if that's your thing. We saw quite a few little skippies yesterday.

Nice, There's marlin getting caught on both coasts as well. Even as far as New Plymouth.

Two caught where we were getting yf yesterday. Bloody early to be catching them. Gotta be some blues around now with those yf too.

Funny how things change.I remember it wasn’t long ago and all the recreational fishermen were having a cry that yellowfin had been wiped out by commercial fishermen.
My local club had extinct next to the yellowfin trophy.look at it now

Well... I'm into the game and I want it to last. I think they should put a limit asap on YFT. One per angler per boat seems plenty of meat on the table to me... same as bluefin

Yup!! It has officially kicked off here in the Naki/west coast with 2x Stripys caught over the weekend!! Very early start compared to other seasons! I'm sure it wont be long and will see some YFT being caught as well!! exciting times ahead!

We fished Saturday out of whitianga and had a cracker morning. 7 big albies and 5 yellowfin to the boat. Kept 3 of the yellowfin all around the 20kg mark. It was going off out there. Also had a humpback breach outside red merc on our way back in
