Hey guys, want to do some further exploration into the Kaimanawa’s… is the Te Iringa track trail bike or mountain bike friendly? With an obvious consideration to trampers and other foot traffic.
Cheers

As far as I know Clements to the Oamaru hut (via Te Iringa) is open to MTBers.
Experience. What you get just after you needed it.
some of the track is narrow i got hit by a mountain biker going fast no apology damaged scope on gun hurt shoulder
Sections of that track are not suitable/safe for MTB shared use.
It’s a grade 5 bike track I walk it fairly regularly and as chainsaw said sections are very dodgy and recon I could walk it quicker than bike.
I've started at the same time as a pair of mountain bikers, and we swapped the lead until after the old hut site when a hind ran across the track between us an I lost interest.
Mamils (middle aged men in lycra) seem oblivious to other life forms, beware of them.
Chkm8,
as a 20 yr mtbiker a grade 3 sometimes 4 is at my limit...but Te iringa is certainly not a mtb trail.
yes mtbkers are allowed to go there but its a miserable ride!
its rutty and not maintained for mtbking....pleasant enough for hunters and hikers...

It's already been mentioned, but I figure the more people who tell you the track isn't MTB friendly, the more likely you will believe it.
I met a group of MTBers at Oamaru Hut a couple of years ago who said they had to carry their bikes for almost half the track.

When I was in my 20's I would have ridden it and carried some of it as well. Walked it about 3 years back meet some MTB's on a nice day ride.
Definitly for experiance riders and if carrying a rifle and overnight gear thats starting to get unmanagable just with the width of the pack and rifle pointing up.
