Sounds like your standard 'tick in the wrong box' type thing mate. I get them with my pc and you just have to take the regular precautions (make backups of anything you're gonna change)
Trial and error till you get it to stop. For us with pc's its usually a registry thing but for you with an apple i have no idea. Is there a 'norton' type antivirus on apple? If so, burn it. Burn it with fire!
