I did it years ago. Should be same process as taking a rifle to NZ for a hunt. the dealer if purchasing needs to apply for a restricted goods export permit at the Aussie end. No cost for the permit.

Gidday mate, I recently (Post CC) imported some parts/magazines from AU. It was simple, the hardest part was finding a seller in AU that was willing to ship to NZ. I simply filled out an import permit, it goes away to get either accepted/declined by the local F/A department and then I sent a copy of the permit, along with a copy of my FAL to the seller. I presume a firearm/parts would need to be shipped to a local dealer. Pretty painless, hope that helps.
    Regards, Wayne

The dealer needs to be registered and have a current export license.
Its all free, as i have done it when trans shipping fireams.
Though i must say its very 3rd world bureaucracy, hopefully not the way NZ is going...

The easiest way to get a rifle from Aussie is to have it brought here by a visiting Aussie shooter. The rifle would need to be transferred to the licence of the shooter who would then have to get Defence Department export consent (not a big deal). You would need a NZ Police Import Permit to take possession. That was how I got a rifle (1898 .30/40 Krag) that I bought in Qld, after trying for 18 months to get it by 'normal' methods.

A dealer in Australia by the name of 'Mialls' quoted me a cost of $1200 NZD to send a rifle from Oz to NZ (that involved both shipping and permit costs). If you factor in customs duty/GST upon its' arrival into NZ, you're looking at $2-2.5k-ish all up.

I think it's a matter of finding a dealer over there who is organised enough and willing to go through the process.

I can help with dealer contact who is a kiwi in Aussie and specializes in exports . He’s organised several for me, you can trust him. He has also done exports out of the US for me.
    PM me for details.
