    Smallbore shooting?

    Hey fellas,

Our Young farmers club had another crack at smallbore shooting again this year, luckily it suited this year for me to have a go.
So along we went and had a blast, some good shooting and some terrible shooting. But thats what you get from beginners!!

How much interest is there in smallbore on here? Can't say I remember reading anything about it yet. (Quite possibly because shooting targets has never really appealled in the past)

So I'm going to go along next week and meet some of the chaps in the club and have another go.

Who knows what is a decent rifle to get (if I was going to)?
And the sights and other bits and pieces.

In the mean time I can use one of the club rifles I think.

    Puku

Tuiman is a bit of a legend at gaybore. He has all the fancy frilly stuff. Way to diciplined for me. Took my son to a local shoot a few months ago and I got thrashed by a 10yr old girl.
Had some annoying prick fiddling with me sights every shot and when I asked him to find someone else to annoy I went alright.

    Smallbore

It takes abit of kit to get started but most clubs will have some gear for loan or members will have spare gear. In rifles look for a good second hand Anschutz model 1800 or 1900 series. Will be 1807, 1813 or 1814 etc.

Unless you where real keen on getting into it, i woulod just use club gear as the dollars go fast. around 2k would get you going with club grade gear or little better depending on bargins you get.

I have had this year off as i never had the time with to much on first time since i started when i was 5.................
been in matser grade since i was 10 haha hell making me sound old, its a good fun if you treat it that way with mates etc 100.10s taake a long time in the making

Bless you, get a lot of that this time of year.

Must ay I'd like to find one for the safe one of these days. But it would get brought out and used on a regular basis.

If you're keen to give rimfire target shooting a go with your current rifle, have a look around for metallic silhouette shooting. Standing free hand with no slings, gloves, etc.

Just a scoped rifle, aiming for targets up to 100m away. Great fun ! Even a JW15 would do the job for beginners.

Yep and it's cheap too. We only use CCI stds at $45 a brick and our standard .22 hunting rifles pretty much. Shoot at 40,60,77 and 100m. Do bigger ones at 200m with the .223's as well.

Rimfire Silhouette is great excersize too. By the time you've walked 4 times to each distance and back, to reset your 5 targets, you've covered 2.2km in an 80 shot match... And you'll soon know if any scope can't live up to it's return to zero claims.

    Ray.
10MRT shooters do it 60 times, in two directions and at two speeds.

Been a few years since i was smallbore shooting always preferred 10m air rifle. Rimfire silhouette is a lot of fun as well. I always shot in sporter. Certainly enforces good standing technique, patience and trigger control. Personally though these days i prefer field shooting...
