    Hi all !

    Hi everyone,
Moved here to Christchurch from Ireland last December and have decided to stay for good. I didn't get to do much hunting back home in Ireland, just got to bust some bunnies and foxes on my uncles farm, as I'm not part of the "landed gentry" and we have insane laws on center fire licenses. I did get to have a go at some moose and whitetails in Canada (spent a year in Edmonton, Alberta) and loved it so would love to get into deer and pig hunting here. Got my firearms license and am picking up my new rifle on Tuesday from Gunworks so if anyone could point me in the right direction in North Canterbury it would be most appreciated. thanks in advance and please forgive my stupid questions I am still very much a newbie when it comes to hunting

Welcome to NZ, Did you get close to any moose?

It may help if you got to meet some one in your area that hunts and learn from them.

There's a few Canadians knocking about on here. They'll all be busy with Thanks Giving dinner right now though if they know what's good for them!

Hi toby well if by close you mean one coming through the front windscreen of my friends truck yeah pretty close, he was damn tasty though even if the truck was written off.
Myself and a couple of other friends tracked a couple on snowmobiles for a few hours but the temp fell to -32C before we could get a safe shot so no luck, we got soft and headed back to the warm fire in the farmhouse. Thanks for the welcome

I went to west edmonton shopping mall years ago, it had a terminator robot in the foyer and a dukes of hazzard car in one of the shops, -nearly took a canadian lass home with me.

Its different the roasts are a lot tougher and have quite a gamey flavor but the backsteaks are very tender if cooked properly, i must say though i still prefer a nice piece of venison fillet,I don't think theres anything in the world that can beat it

Welcome 308howa. You asked for directions from North Canterbury so I can help you there. Go north until you get to Picton then jump a ferry to Wellington. Once you get off the ferry, even though you are Oyrish you will recognize that you are now in New Zealand. Keep traveling North. If however you become convinced by the locals that the South Island is the mainland (which is possible as the south islanders run a good propaganda program) then head to where the ground stops shaking and then start hunting.
