Yea, any modification of any sort null and voids the factory warranty, whether it be barrel threading for a muzzle brake/suppressor, or bedding the stock, etc, etc. So if someone is concerned about warranty, they should make sure they are happy with the rifle before they get any mods at all done to it. And its not the NZ distributor that's the problem here, its the manufacturers themselves, especially the European brands. They will not honour the warranty to the NZ distributor if you have modified the rifle in any way. I know in some cases the NZ distributors have decided to fix/replace rifles at their cost when the parent company has refused, but you can't count on it.
